Lake is only one of the many hundred of lakes
found in the Interlakes Highway region located east of 100 Mile
House, British Columbia, Canada. The extensive lake system is
connected by a serious of gravel roads and wilderness hiking trails.
The
journey to the lake is forested and very scenic passing by many
lakes before reaching Cougar Lake. It is one of the easier of
the lakes to access in the Interlakes Highway system because it
is located on one of the main backcountry roads - Bowers Lake
FSR (Forest Service Road).
The Interlakes Highway, also referred to as the "Fishing
Highway", is a popular lake system for people who enjoy fishing,
boating, canoeing, kayaking, atving, dirt biking, wind surfing,
wildlife viewing and camping. Cougar Lake attracts the fishing,
canoeing and camping crowds.
The
small campground on Cougar Lake includes three campsites. Each
one includes a picnic table, fire pit and access to pit toilets.
In the campground, down at the lake, is also a roof top boat launch.
Nice little addition so that people can fish for some of the Rainbow
Trout in the lake.
if the campsite is full or the fish are not biting, no worries,
as there are many lakes in the area to camp and fish at. Some
of the other closer camping and fishing destinations to Cougar
Lake include Bowers, Lorin, Boundary, Windy and Howard
Lakes. Some of the popular trails in the area include the
Donnely Lake, Canim-Mahood Falls and Deception
Falls Hiking Trails.
How
to Get to Cougar Lake: From the community
of 100 Mile House travel north for 1 kilometre and then turn right
onto the Canim-Hendrix Rd. Continue past Forest Grove following
the signs to Mahood Lake. Look for the gravel 8000 or 8200 Road
on your right before Mahood Falls. Both roads connect to Bowers
Lake FSR leading to Cougar Lake.
