| Clayton
Falls is
a recreation site in the central coast community
of Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada on the shores of the
North Bentinck Arm, west of Sutlej Point and the BC Ferry Terminal.
The day use only park is a popular sightseeing destination in
the central coast community because of the ocean views, short
hiking trail, picnic sites and the viewpoint over looking Clayton
Falls.
From the waterfall viewpoint, Clayton Falls is
set back in the trees. The waterfall river originates from the
slopes of Mount Moore working its way down the mountain to the
falls. At the falls the water froths over a series of steps made
of polished boulders, tumbling into a pool of white water, eventually
settling down and continuing its journey to the ocean.
The day use park includes a short 150 metre hiking
trail exploring through a forest along the shores of Bentinck
Arm to some picnic sites. From the picnic tables the trail circles
back to the gravel road. Pick up the trail on the opposite side
of the road and continue to the viewing platform and Clayton Falls.
The trailhead is located in the main parking lot where there is
also some information signs.
The region around Clayton Falls and Mount Moore
is also home to many species of wildlife. Some of the birding
wildlife in the region, best seen from the trail, include Bald
Eagles, Blue Herons and Trumpeter Swans. Other wildlife in the
region, best viewed from a far distance, include the Grizzly Bear,
deer and mountain goat.
