Well is
a curious and special find located in a hidden clump
of trees on the side of Highway 20 opposite the Tidal
Flats and the Alexander MacKenzie Monument, east of the BC
Ferry Terminal and west of the community of Bella Coola, BC, Canada.
The little enclave is a local Wishing Well with a small waterfall,
pond and sitting benches.
The Wishing Well is located on the opposite side
of the highway, a few steps west of the monument, behind a group
of trees and hidden from view. Listen closely and you can here
the waterfall but not see it. Once behind the trees, a small enclave
appears stacked up against some rock cliffs covered in moss, shrubs
and dew.
The waterfall is the highlight of the side trip.
It tumbles down the polished rocks into a small pond of wishes.
To the side of the falls is some massive tree roots with a primitive
set of sitting benches. In the far corner is a climbing rope,
to who knows where? The Wishing Well is a nice, easy access, tour
that may not be on your agenda that is worth a quick visit.
And maybe good things to come.
How to
Get to Wishing Well: From
the community of Bella Coola travel west on the main road towards
the BC Ferry Terminal. Look for a lone viewing bench beside a
large boulder with an Alexander Mackenzie plaque on it. Across
the street is the Wishing Well. From Bella Coola
the distance to the Wishing Well is about 4 kilometres.
