Birdwatching: Birding in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region of British Columbia, Canada is enjoyed at many of the wetland parks, marshes, lakes and protected estuaries located in and around the communities. The birdwatching locations vary from very well marked and maintained parks with viewing platforms and nature houses, to estuaries on the side of the highway, to far off remote untouched wetland marshes only accessed by foot.

Birdwatching in the region is mostly self guided, although many wildlife tours do point out birds during their adventures. Self guided birdwatching is easy in the region as there are many opportunities in most of the communities to observe some of your favorite and hard to find BC birds.

Some of the lakes, rivers, estuaries and wetlands in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region fall within the migratory path of some birds. Time the season right and the birdwatching opportunity will be well worth the trip. Local birds enjoy BC year round and many of the local lakes, marshes and estuaries are their favorite nesting and feeding grounds.

Red-necked grebes, hummingbirds, common loons, wood ducks, ospreys, yellow headed black birds, flycatchers, woodpeckers, yellow warblers, blue herons, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, hawks, sandpipers, seagulls, pelicans are just some of the birds living in the region.

To start, here is a few of the park and wetland areas with easy access to birdwatching viewpoints - Scout Island Park and the River Valley Trail in Williams Lake, 100 Mile Marsh in 100 Mile House, Tidal Flats Estuary in Bella Coola and Bowron Lake near Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada.
