| Boating and Sailing: The lakes, rivers and ocean of the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region of British Columbia, Canada provides some great day trips and long haul boating adventures exploring remote ocean islands, secluded river estuaries, private sandy beaches and remote wilderness lakes. The fresh water lakes in the region vary in size and ease of access. The remote wilderness lakes usually have a roof top boat launch and are located at the end of a, sometimes, rough gravel road. The community lakes and the lakes in the provincial parks are located on, mostly, paved roads. They usually have a paved or gravel boat launch with pier, sandy beach, campgrounds, washrooms and a large parking lot. The waters off the coast of Bella Coola is the only access to the Pacific Ocean when exploring in this region. If from out of town, boating on the west coast is best enjoyed with a tour company with an experienced mariner behind the wheel as your guide. A guide will also know the best spots for boating and your chosen adventure. In the Bella Coola Valley the marina is surrounded by mountains located on Bentinck Arm. It is a good place to fill up on petrol and get supplies. There is dock moorage also provided at the marina for sailboats, yachts and commercial vessels. Accommodations are available in the village. Some people within driving distance of their boating destination, people who do allot of boating, arrive in the region with boat in tow. Whether it is boating on the lakes or down a river or out on the ocean, most who arrive with boat in tow are experienced and knowledgeable in the operation of their boat and the conditions expected while out on the water. Boating in the region is enjoyed in many ways. Some just enjoy the time on the water sightseeing. Some boaters combine time on the water with fishing. The recreational boater might be more into pulling a wake boarder or water skiing or even a tube. Boaters with sails will breeze on by on many of the larger lakes caught in one of the many wind bursts or while on the open ocean riding the waves. Some of the regions best selection of fresh water lakes for recreational use can be found on the Interlakes Highway near 100 Mile House. The selection of lakes in around 100 Mile House is extensive. When in Williams Lake take a drive out to Quesnel and Horsefly Lakes. Check out Bowron Lake when in Quesnel. When on the coast visit the fjords and islands up and down Bentinck Arm. |
