Lake , BC, Canada is
a
village located 315 kilometres (195 mi.) west of Williams
Lake on Highway 20, at the entrance of the Tweedsmuir Provincial
Park, on the western edge of the Chilcotin Grasslands region of
British Columbia, Canada. Anahim Lake is surrounded by lakes,
mountains, rivers and many remote trail systems.
The village is one of the larger service centres
in the region providing many amenities for travelers. Some of
the amenities in the Anahim Lake area available for visitors include
a post office, gas stations, accommodations, a laundromat, a liquor
store, restaurants, an airport, grocery stores, first aid services
and repair shops.
Anahim Lake, BC is a gateway to many wilderness
park locations. The most obvious is Tweedsmuir
Provincial Park. It is the largest park in the region and
the most wild. The other parks to make note of in the area is
the Itcha IIgachuz Range and the Entako Provincial Parks. All
with hiking trails leading into a rugged and remote wilderness
environment.
Some of the hiking trails in the park system also
allow access to horseback riders, backpackers, mountain bikers
and dirt bikers. Always check prior to exploring in the wild on
the accepted use of the trail.
Some of the trails in the region include the Christensen
Creek, Peter Fuller Pack and the Blackwater Wagon Road Panhandle
Phillips Horse Trails in the Itcha IIgachuz Range Provincial Park.
On the Anahim Lake side of Tweedsmuir Park is the Anahim Peak,
Beef, Rainbow Range, Octopus Lake and Crystal Lake Trails. Many
of these trails are also enjoyed while horseback riding and dirt
biking in the summer.. and snowmobiling in the winter.
North of Anahim Lake is the Dean River gravel road
providing access to remote wilderness campsites, fresh water lakes,
sightseeing viewpoints, canoe routes and trails. It is remote
route that travels north into the wilderness lands exploring lands
not within any park boundaries. The road leads to access points
for the Dean River Paddle Route, Rainbow Lake Hiking Trail and
the Alexander MacKenzie Trail.
People arrive in the Anahim Lake region for the
backcountry adventures and access to the major parks. Adventures
like fishing, wilderness camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing,
horseback riding and offroading in the summer. Snowmobiling, ice
fishing and cross country skiing in the winter.
