| Mountain Biking: The mountain biking opportunities available in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region vary from community to community. Some communities have created impressive designated mountain biking wilderness parks with dirt ramps, boardwalk risers and tons of downhill single tracks. Other communities have left the trails more natural and mountain bikers share the trails with hikers, horseback riders and/or dirt bikers. Most mountain biking enthusiasts arrive in the area with a group of friends or as a family gearing up for some camping and biking. Much of the mountain biking enjoyed in the forests, grasslands and mountains of the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast is self guided. Meaning the trail has been researched by your group prior to departure. Things like the equipment, route conditions and weather. Better safe than sorry eh! There are a few biking clubs to look up in the region if you are solo and looking for a biking partner. They may be able to assist. As for planning with a mountain bike tour company - there are a few of those too in the province. Mountain bike touring companies provide an interpretive guide, bike and wilderness, lodge or cottage accommodations. The gravel road and trail system in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is massive and leads deep into the backcountry. There are mountain biking trails leading to lakes, summits, rivers, sand dunes and more. There are day rides and long haul rides with wilderness camping. Some rides are groomed with ramps, dirt jump and boardwalk, others are left in a natural state with tree roots, dead fall trees, boulders and mud. Some of the designated mountain biking destinations to mark down on your calendar to explore when in the Cariboo include the Desous and Fox Mountain Trails near the community of Williams Lake, BC; the Interlakes and 99 Mile Trails near the community of 100 Mile House, BC; the Hangman Springs Trails near Quesnel, BC and the Lost Lake Trail near Bella Coola, BC. |
