Snowmobiling | Sledding

| Snowmobiling and Sledding: In the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region, the winter months bring snow at the higher elevations.. and to many of the streets and rooftops in the local communities. Often, temperatures drop and a blanket of snow covers the hiking and biking trails, gravel roads and community walking paths creating winter recreation and transportation routes for snowshoers, cross country skiers and snowmobilers. During the winter months the mountain ranges, the alpine meadows and the frozen lakes take on a whole new feel layered in white. In many cases a snowmobile is the mode of transportation of choice in the region for exploring. Often the highways are lined with snowmobile routes as people travel from remote areas into the community for supplies and events. Vehicles, as most know, do not do well in powder snow. There are snowmobiling tour companies operating in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region. Some operate from remote lodges providing winter getaway time in comfort. There are adventure companies providing snowmobile day tours. Many multi day tours include accommodations, meals, transportation and, sometimes, live entertainment. Some of the communities in the region have created snowmobile clubs. An association that usually creates snowmobile routes and maintains a section of the mountain assigned for snowmobile use. Some of the snowmobile destinations to make note of when in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region include the Gun Lake Trails, Tyaughton Lake Trails, McDonald Lake, Shulaps Range Trails, Mowson Pond and Nosebag Mountain near Lillooet. Then there are the Interlakes, Green Lake, Horse Lake, Savon Lake and Begbie Snowmobile routes near 100 Mile House. A little further north in the community of Williams Lake are a wide network of snowmobile trails east and north of the community plus some more out near Onward and St Joseph Mission. Continue north to Quesnel and there are the Chip Dump, Milburn Mountain, Cottonwood, Sundberg Hill, Snowshoe Plateau, Mt Agnus and Sugar Creek Snowmobile Trails. On Highway 20 heading west through the Chilcotin grasslands and
plateau the endless number of gravel roads in the backcountry,
often, become the snowmobile routes to and from town for outlying
ranches and homes. On the central coast west of the community
of Bella Coola is the Jay Lakes Snowmobile area. |
