Mile House, BC, Canada is
a small community located east of the community of Williams Lake,
British Columbia, Canada. The region is fenced and cross fenced
with hectares of grasslands and ranchlands. Some fields enjoy
roaming cattle and horses while others stand still, waiting, in
long rows of hay stacks.
The region
first started under the name of
Davidson's Lake Valley Ranch and Roadhouse on Valley Creek. It
was the brainstorm of Thomas Davidson. But soon later Davidson
got himself in some trouble and fled the country leaving the roadhouse
to change hands many times over until... the Cariboo Gold Rush
hit and everything changed.
Under
the ownership of Samual Alder and Thomas Berry the roadhouse soon
became another of the "Mile Houses" established along
the route of the Cariboo Gold Rush Trail. Soon miners, fur traders
and settlers stopped in for food, accommodations, gambling and
entertainment. The roadhouse became a booming business quickly.
Today, 150 Mile House is a small community, a ranchland
community, a quiet community. It is best known for its history
and for its log homes. The area is home to Guest Ranches, horseback
riding tours and cattle drives. Some of the amenities in the community
of special interest to travelers include a gas station, ATM, restaurants
and accommodations.
Driving the highway in the region one will notice
many partially built log homes. This is because some of the finest
log home building companies in BC, Canada operate in 150 Mile
House.
