(XC) Cross Country Skiing: The Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region is covered in rolling hills, grasslands and mountains. During the winter months some of the higher elevation mountains and communities become blanketed in layers of snow. It is then, a winter transformation occurs and many of the backcountry gravel roads and trails become designated cross country ski routes.

In some of the communities in the region there are nordic ski clubs operating a series of xc ski trails. In most cases the trails are well signed and there is a trail map and pit toilets at the trailhead. Some nordic clubs operate a lodge onsite, and some provide warming shelters, cabins, barrels, picnic tables and fire pits along the trail routes.

In many communities of the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region there is a large backcountry gravel road and trail network in place. These trails and roads, in the wilderness regions around many of the communities, provides some of the more rugged and remote cross country ski adventures.

Some wilderness routes can be, as simple as following the snow covered backcountry roads to an alpine meadow or frozen lake. Others require more effort and experience climbing hills and skiing down mountains. When xc skiing in the backcountry it is important to have a good trip plan, gps and proper equipment and clothing. Always ski in groups.

Near the community of Lillooet, BC the xc skiing trails include the Tyaughton Lake Trails and Gun LakeTrails. Further north in 100 Mile House the 99 Mile and the 108 Mile Trails are popular cross country ski routes.

Near the community of Williams Lake in the central Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region the Bull Mountain and Alex Fraser Research Forest Trails are some of the xc skiing destinations. North of Williams Lake surrounding the community Quesnel, BC, Canada some of the trails popular for cross country skiing include the Wonderland and Hallis Lake Trails.
